Always carry the sknning knife. You never know when you're going to kill a skinnable monster in Warcraft. Most of the critters, and some enemies, are all skinnable. So, you need to carry your knife with you wherever you go.

Skin in fast-spawn areas. There are a few areas where critters will respawn at a fast rate - as soon as one of them dies. These areas are skinning goldmines, simply because you can run around for hours getting stacks upon stacks of leather and hides.

Watch the market. It sounds weird, but stacks of leather can sometimes sell for a very paltry sum on the auction house. Keep an eye on the market and compare the price of leather on the auction house with the merchant sales price. If you can make more gold by selling to a merchant, then why not sell it to them?

Don't stop leveling. One of the biggest problems people run into while skinning is forgetting to level the skill. Eventually, they'll run into monsters that they simply cannot skin because they never leveled the skill beyond a certain point. Make sure you know where you skinning level is at and to train at a higher level when it's available.
